Starting school for the first time

In May each year a notice is handed out at the local kindergarten, informing the community that Tours and Open Days will be held at the local schools, and that enrolments can be then be made at your preferred school.

Your child needs to have turned 5 before the 30th April before he/she can legally start school. Please consider your child's overall development - physical, emotional, social as well as intellectual when deciding if she/he is ready for school. Parents can legally defer enrolment for their child until the child is six years old.

We conduct our Prep Information sessions during the children’s Transition Program for parents of children who will be commencing Prep for the following year. This provides a presentation to parents regarding:

• School values
• Student welfare programs
• Prep academic program
• School facilities, programs, class sizes, uniform, parenting payments
• Parent involvement
• Enrolment procedures
• Question and answer sessions

Parents are provided with an information pack, which includes details of the enrolment procedures, plus other valuable information. The information pack consists of:

• Enrolment form
• Privacy statement
• Parent Handbook
• Prep curriculum Flyer
• School uniform details
• Internet Consent Form
• Headlice Check Consent
• Immunisation Pamphlet

These information packs are also available to any person who enquires about enrolling at YPS.
Enrolments for the following school year are open from the commencement of Term 3.
To enrol as a student in Prep class at YPS;
When you come to the school (no appointment is necessary), the school will require you to provide:

• Proof of age - (Birth certificate or passport)
• Immunisation certificate, (Issued by the local council)
• Completed enrolment form
