Enrolling at YPS

Starting school for the first time

In May each year a notice is handed out at the local kindergartens informing the community that tours and open days will be held at the local schools, and that enrolments can be then be made at your preferred school.

 

Your child needs to have turned 5 before the 30th April before he/she can legally start school.  Please consider your child's overall development - physical, emotional, social as well as intellectual when deciding if she/he is ready for school.  Parents can legally defer enrolment for their child until the child is 6 years old.

 

Parents are provided with an information pack, which includes details

of the enrolment procedures, plus other valuable information.  The

information pack consists of:

  • enrolment form

  • privacy statement

  • parent handbook

  • school uniform details

  • internet consent form

  • headlice check consent

  • immunisation pamphlet

 

We conduct our prep information sessions during the children’s transition program for

parents of children who will be commencing Prep for the following year.  This provides a presentation to parents regarding:

  • school values

  • student welfare programs

  • Prep academic program

  • school facilities, programs, class sizes, uniform, parenting payments

  • parent involvement

  • enrolment procedures

  • question and answer sessions

 

Information packs are also available to any person who enquires about enrolling at YPS.

To enrol as a student in Prep class at YPS, you can visit or contact the school by phone or email.

(no appointment is necessary)

The school will require you to provide:

  • proof of age - (birth certificate or passport)

  • immunisation certificate (issued by the local council)

  • completed enrolment form

 

 

To enrol as a student from another school

If you have a student transferring to YPS from another school we require you to:

  • inform the school that your child is currently attending that you are planning to transfer your child to the Yarram Primary School No 693 (this will enable the school to put together the child's student file and possible work samples, as well as transfer details;  these transfer details eliminate the need to provide proof of birth and immunisation details that were required when the child first commenced school in Australia)

  • contact the school for an enrolment pack

  • complete enrolment form enclosed in pack and forward it back to the school

 

As the Yarram Primary School has several classes available at most year levels, it appreciates the maximum amount of notification, to ensure the best possible placement of your child.

Information about school zones

Our school zone is available on  findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

 

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.
